Two Solid Granny Square Patterns

With so many crocheted granny square motif patterns to choose from, it can be difficult to decide which one to stitch for your next project. Let Corrina Ferguson tempt you with two nearly solid granny square patterns, The Solid Granny Square and the Filet Crochet Starburst Granny Square.

SOLID GRANNY SQUARE

Ch 4. Sl st into fourth ch from hook to form ring.

Rnd 1: Working into center of ring, ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2 dc, ch 2, (3 dc, ch 2) 3 times, sl st to top of beg-ch-3 to join. Do not turn.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc into same ch-2 sp, [dc in dc to next ch-2 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp] 3 times, dc in dc to last ch-2 sp, 2 dc in ch-2 sp, ch 2, sl st in top of beg-ch-3 to join. Do not turn.

Repeat row 2 to desired size.

FILET CROCHET STARBURST GRANNY SQUARE

Ch 4. Sl st into fourth ch from hook to form ring.

Round 1: Working into center of ring, ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), dc, [ch 2, dc, ch 1, dc] 3 times, ch 2, sl st in third ch of beg-ch-4 to join. Do not turn.

Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in same ch-2 sp, [dc in dc, ch 1, sk ch-1 sp, dc in next dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp] 3 times, dc in dc, ch 1, sk ch-1 sp, dc in next dc, 2 dc in ch-2 sp, ch 2, sl st in top of beg-ch-3 to join. Do not turn.

Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same ch-2 sp, [dc in dc to ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk ch-1 sp, dc in dc to ch-2 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp] 3 times, dc in dc to ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk ch-1 sp, dc in dc to ch-2 sp, 2 dc in ch-2 sp, ch 2, sl st in top of beg-ch-3 to join. Do not turn.

Repeat Round 3 to desired size.
