Tips for Photographing Flying Birds
Doug GardnerDescription
It takes preparation to photograph active snow geese. In this video, outdoor photographer Doug Gardner takes you to North Carolina’s Pocosin Lakes to capture the geese in their natural habitat. When photographing flying birds, you first need to set up a camouflage blind, then position a few decoys on the water. It pays to position yourself with the wind and the sun to your back.
Because the birds are white, you should meter on a neutral gray object, then close down one or two stops. You also need to carefully focus on the bird as it flies in for a landing.
