Single Crochet Invisible Decrease

The invisible decrease is an interesting decrease to explore in crochet. Rather than simply crocheting two stitches together, you’ll work the stitches in a manner that makes the decrease blend into the crochet fabric. This decrease is perfect for projects like amigurumi and other small toys. In this video, Corrina Ferguson demonstrates how to work a single crochet invisible decrease.

To work the decrease, Corrina follows these steps,

1. Bring hook under the front loop of the next stitch (2 loops on hook).
2. Going to the next stitch, bring hook under the front loop (3 loops on hook).
3. Yarn over, draw through two loops (2 loops remain on hook).

Corrina notes that there is a Right Side and a Wrong Side to this decrease. On the Right Side (or public side), the decrease blends into the fabric well. You need to look at the fabric up close to pick out the decrease. On the Wrong Side (or private side), the decrease is clearly visible. This is because only the front loops were picked up to work the decrease. This leaves the back loops visible on the Wrong Side of the fabric. If working a project in rows, it’s important to make sure that the decrease is worked on the Right Side.
