Simple Picot Edging

Looking for a delicate edging to add to you next crochet project? Try a simple crocheted picot edging! This easy edging can be added on everything from crocheted baby blankets to top of crocheted socks. In this video, Corrina Ferguson demonstrates how to work a decorative picot edging.

This edging uses single crochet stitches along with chains, making it a great edging to try if you are new to crochet. Corrina begins by attaching a new color of yarn with a slip stitch. With the new yarn attached, she works the edging as follows:

1. Chain 3.
2. Work a single crochet in the second chain from hook.
3. Skip next chain.
4. Single crochet into next stitch.

Repeat Steps 1 – 4 around.

When Corrina gets to the corner, she doesn’t worry about adding any additional stitches. This edging has a good deal of stretch, and typically doesn’t curl up around a corner. As she works down the side, she keeps the spacing of the edging even, so that there is not puckering or ruffling along the side. If you’re having trouble working the edging down the side, you might find it helpful to add a round of single crochet edging onto the piece before working the edging. By adding this round of single crochet, you’ll have stitches that can be easily worked into for adding the picot edging.
