How to Work Garter Stitch in Rounds
Jen LucasDescription
Knit One Round, Purl One Round
When knitting in the round, the right side of the work is always facing you. Therefore, in order to achieve garter stitch, one round will be worked with knit stitches, and the next round worked with purl stitches.
Jen demonstrates knitting garter stitch in the round by starting on a knit round. Since she purled the previous round, she slips the stitch marker to mark the start of the round, moves the yarn between the needles from the front to the back, and then knits all the stitches. When she comes to the round marker after knitting all the stitches, the marker is once again slipped. The yarn is brought between the needles from the back to the front. The next round is all purl stitches. By alternating rounds of knitting and purling, garter stitch in the round is created.
