Description

Most crafters tend to have more than one project in the works at all times. Learn how to sew vinyl into a project bag as a way to create a window that allows you to easily see what’s inside without having to open the bag. Aurora Sisneros takes you step-by-step through how to make this fun project.

Fabric

For this project you will need several different types of fabric. To start with, you will need fabric for the outside of the bag as well as the lining. This bag can be made from cotton fabric, and as Aurora shows when constructing the bag, coordinating outer and lining fabrics work best. You will also need fusible fleece. This is used to provide structure to the bag.

If you cannot find fusible fleece, you can use a heavy weight fleece and then attach it to the outer bag fabric using a fusible basting spray. A heavier weight fusible interfacing can also be used. The last type of fabric needed for this project is vinyl. Sewing vinyl can be intimidating. However, Aurora shows how to sew vinyl into this project in a way that makes it quick and easy.

Window

The fun vinyl window in this project bag is formed before any bag assembly takes place. Aurora shows where and how to position the window and how to cut the rectangles from all layers of fabric. She explains why some of the rectangles are cut larger than others, allowing room to finish the fabric edges around the vinyl. Aurora then shows how to sew vinyl without needed a Teflon presser foot or any other special tools.

Construction

Once the vinyl window has been sewn in place the rest of the bag can be assembled. Aurora shows you how to sew the main body of the bag and then demonstrates how to sew the circle bottom in place. She also shows how to attach the adjustable shoulder strap as well as add a drawstring closure.

NOTE: The circle should be 8″ across, which would be approximately 25″ in circumference.
