How to Photograph Reflections

Adam Barker
Duration:   2  mins

Description

Reflections can add drama to a beautiful scenic image. In this video, landscape photographer Adam Barker shows you how to photograph reflections in a mountain lake.

Late light of the day, Adam sets up before the calm, clear lake with aspen trees as background elements. He uses a polarizing filter to add warmth and, at first, shoots only the lake reflections. The result is a photograph that could be a painting. As an alternative, he composes wider images, the shoreline in the frame’s lower third. You will learn to shoot several different frames to take advantage of the golden light.
