Description

The crocheted crocodile stitch is one of the most beautiful and interesting crochet stitch patterns out there. It creates a 3D texture that is totally unique and will leave others impressed and curious as to how you created it. Once you learn the mechanics of the stitch pattern, it really is pretty simple – using just chains and double crochet stitches. In this video, Corrina Ferguson demonstrates how to make the crocodile stitch.

CROCODILE STITCH

The Crocodile Stitch is created by starting with a multiple of 6 plus 3 chains. For the swatch in the video, Corrina creates 21 chains. She follows these instructions to create this interesting stitch pattern:

Ch a multiple of 6 plus 3.

Ladder Set-Up Row: 2 dc in sixth ch from hook, skip next 2 ch, dc in next ch, *skip next 2 ch, 2 dc in next ch, skip next 2 ch, dc in next ch; repeat from * to end, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc for this crocodile half), 4 dc around post of first dc of next pair, 5 dc around post of second dc in pair, *sl st in next dc, 5 dc around post of first dc of next pair, 5 dc around post of second dc in pair; rep from * to end.

Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), skip first crocodile, *ch2, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in center of crocodile; repeat from * to end.
