Cluster Stitch

Cluster stitch is all in the name—several stitches are clustered together to turn them into one single stitch. A common cluster stitch is the four-stitch double crochet cluster, which will be demonstrated by Corrina Ferguson in this video lesson.

To work the cluster stitch, double crochet stitches are created up until the final step and then worked all together at the end to complete the stitch. Corrina follows these steps to work the four-stitch double crochet cluster:

1. Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull through the stitch (3 loops on hook)
2. Yarn over and pull through two loops on hook (2 loops on hook)
3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 three more times, working into the next stitch; each completion of step 2 will add another loop to the hook (5 loops total)
4. Yarn over and pull through all five loops; one loop remains on the hook and the cluster stitch is complete

These steps are repeated for each cluster stitch. Corrina notes that there are many different ways to make a cluster stitch. The demonstrated cluster stitch uses four stitches worked in double crochet; however, different numbers and stitch types can be used to create these interesting stitches.
