Beehive Stitch
Mary Beth TempleDescription
The Beehive Stitch is a beautiful textured stitch pattern that is created using knit stitches paired with knit one below stitches. In this video, Mary Beth Temple demonstrates how to knit the Beehive Stitch.
This stitch pattern can be worked in one color or in two colors. For the swatch worked in the video, Mary Beth uses a single color. She works the Beehive Stitch on an odd number of stitches as follows:
- Row 1 (RS): *K1, k1-b; rep from * to last st, k1.
- Row 2 (WS): Knit all sts.
- Row 3: K2, *k1-b, k1; rep from * to last st, k1.
- Row 4: Knit all sts.
Rep Rows 1 – 4 for pattern.
Mary Beth notes that the Right Side rows will either start and end by knitting 1 stitch or 2 stitches, making it easy to keep track of your place in your knitting. Another advantage to this stitch pattern is that it’s easy to tell the Right Side of the work from the Wrong Side of the work.
This stitch pattern also looks beautiful in two colors, and Mary Beth explains how this stitch pattern could be worked in two colors.
- Color A for Rows 1 and 2
- Color B for Rows 3 and 4
The colors are changed on every Right Side row. Whether you work this stitch pattern in one color or two colors, it’s perfect for projects like cowls, scarves, and baby items.
