A Twist on the Classic Dresden Plate Design
Ashley HoughDescription
With the development of a Dresden ruler or the classic approach of using a Dresden template you will become proficient in how and when to use quilting templates.
Ashley will demonstrate the cutting process and the use of a Dresden ruler with markings that makes cutting your blade fabrics from strips a quick and fun process. She also demonstrates the proper folding method along with a backstitch technique to secure the points when creating the upper and lower edges of the Dresden plate blades. This will make the perfect Dresden blades when using a great chain piecing technique for quick piecing. This saves time and thread as you stitch your Dresden blades.
Creating blades with both upper and lower edges that are finished is a new twist on the classic Dresden plate design. This allows for using the Dresden plate “ring” as a frame around a focus fabric. This style doesn’t require a circle appliqué to cover the center portion of the block. You will learn a clipping method for perfect points along with a pressing method that is foolproof for consistently accurate blades.
You will also learn a backstitch method when linking blades that alleviates thread tails. You will see the pressing method used when joining blades and learn valuable information on how to troubleshoot issues you may encounter along the construction process. Ashley points out the ways to either increase or decrease seam width in order to make your Dresden plate design consistently flat and perfectly ready for the appliqué finish.
