This is a brief overview of techniques. We will go into more detail about requirements for each technique at the top of its session. The types of materials we will use are fabric pastels and markers, acid dye, acrylic paint, and cyanotype/sun sensitive products.
In this session we are essentially coloring! It is fun and relaxing – just make sure when you are picking markers or pastels you are selecting those that are formulated for fabric use.
With the judicious use of a tool called fabric medium, you can take any acrylic paint and make it fabric friendly! In this session we will look at different ways to use fabric medium, and how different concentrations of fabric medium affect the final color.
While acid dyes require a little bit of math, they can give you glorious color on wool or silk. In this session we will be using a product with the ingredients pre-measured so we can get right to the benefits without having to get out the calculator.
Treating cotton fabrics with cyanotype products makes them photo-reactive to UV light like the sun, leaving you with a deep cyan colored fabric. In the video we use a pretreated fabric with both a printed negative, and a collage of found items, to get two very different looking fabrics.

Sometimes we have a vision in our heads of the perfect fabric for our quilts, art piece, cosplay or garment and we just can’t find it! In this class we will look at several different ways to create fabrics with different media, so we can fulfill our artistic vision, or preserve a cherished memory.
