Meet Sara Alm and begin class by exploring what ā€œgood fitā€ means. Learn how to take accurate measurements in all the right places, and how they relate to various types of patterns.
See how easy it is to make a fitting muslin. Review basic fit essentials, such as overall lengthening and shortening or adding width at the side seams, and learn to transfer changes from muslin to pattern.
Darts are essential tools for turning a two-dimensional pattern into a three-dimensional garment that fits your topography. Youā€™ll find out how to move darts for perfect placement, and how to shape with princess seams, which are actually two darts combined.
You may find that there is too much or too little length within your garmentā€™s key areas. Sara shows you how to evaluate this problem, and use what she calls a horizontal dart to solve it, no matter where it occurs and without distorting design lines or seam length.
Follow along as Sara demonstrates an overall fitting strategy that allows you to add or subtract volume anywhere within the garment. For example, the principle of a full or small bust adjustment can be easily applied to other areas.
Class ends with a final check on your muslin and pattern. Sara teaches you when and why you may want to add extra fit insurance with a second, final muslin.
