Meet fine artist Charles Valsechi as he introduces the essential techniques you'll learn to create realistic, three-dimensional forms. Starting with the basics, Charles shows you what supplies you'll need. Then, learn how to visualize and sketch everyday objects using basic geometric forms as a guide.
Practice drawing more complex objects using the techniques from Lesson 1. Charles guides you through the process, demonstrating effective methods for rendering a vase and a fabric still life. In the process, you'll see how to block in larger geometric forms before adding in smaller details.
Elevate your skill set by exploring different types of light and shadow and how they visually define the objects you're drawing. Sketch along with Charles as he demonstrates his technique for drawing a sphere and cup by establishing tones and transitions from dark to light.
Build on the skills you've learned as you draw a still life with two objects. Practice loosely blocking in basic shapes before adding darker shadows and lighter tones. Plus, get in-depth instruction on how to effectively use contrast to create hard, firm and soft edges in your drawings.
See how to create the illusion of tone and texture in your drawings with hatching. Charles offers detailed instruction on how to apply hatching to an apple and the rounded and flat planes of geometric shapes to achieve striking -- and realistic-looking -- results.
Add a sense of dimension to your work with Charles' tips and tricks. Using a simple still life as an example, Charles shows you how to convincingly depict objects in the foreground, middle ground and background to create depth as well as visual interest.
Apply all of your newfound skills to draw a complex scene. Charles walks you through each important step, from creating the rough gestural sketch and blocking in the shadow shapes, to building up tones and modeling large and small forms. Plus, discover simple guidelines that will enhance your work!
