Meet expert and author Jane Patrick and start exploring the limitless possibilities of a rigid heddle loom. Class begins with steps for stripes made in both warp and weft. Then, learn to design in the reed for dazzling, unique fabrics.
Spice things up! Jane demonstrates how pick-up stick patterns can offer exciting design possibilities, before sharing two textural finger-control techniques. Follow along for picked-up loops and Ghiordes knots, moving step by step through the weaving guides included for each technique.
Creating spaces in the weave for lacy, open effects is easy on the rigid heddle loom. Jane shows finger-control techniques perfect for a felted scarf, then moves on to Spanish lace and even leno weave. Along the way, she shares fun project ideas and swatches sure to inspire beautiful weaving!
Some of the most contemporary fabric designs go beyond the warp-weft grid for more curve and dimension. Explore some of these modern methods, as Jane demonstrates honeycomb and deflected warp structures. Next, try your hand at ruffling, shaping with pulled threads and working supplementary warps with differential shrinkage.
Want to weave finer fibers without the fuss? Jane demonstrates how to weave with finer yarns at a finer sett, for graceful, refined fabric on your rigid heddle loom. Then, discover tips for warping, threading and manipulating the two heddles to achieve beautiful results.
Double up! Jane introduces the double weaving technique for layered, more complex fabric that looks different on both sides. Get started with a primer on threading for layers, before ending class with skills for weaving two layers, double-width fabric and even a tube.
